SUMMER 1999

The season got started late this year as we had sent the engine away for its first re-build since our initial flights back in 1990. It was still running just fine as of our last flights in December, but it was obviously over-due for a serious tear-down. We used Green Sky Adventures down in Ohio and we were very impressed by the quick turn-around and the companies' professionalism. Anyway, what with one thing and another, it was June before the Gyrobee was flying again.

Mason Aviation Days (July 18)

No airshow this year, but the usual sumptuous pancake breakfast and Dawn Patrol. Breakfast was free for anyone flying in a vintage aircraft or homebuilt and the Gyrobee certainly qualified! The weather was marginal when I flew over to Mason's Jewett Field about 7AM and this seemed to hurt attendance. There were a couple of fixed-wing ultralights on static display, so there was something for the public to gawk at. Don flew her home late in the morning and we had a nice, low-key time without the pressure of an airshow outing!

Mentone 1999 (July 23-25)

Of course this is the biggest event of the season. Check out the Gyrobee scene and what made this one special!

KIMO 1999 (Labor Day Weekend)

The ASC Nationals/KIMO is becoming one of the must-attend ultralight events each summer.
